Boeing 747

The boeing 747 is spectacular. During the documentary he explains a large amount of information about the huge quantities of material and characteristics of this engineering work. It describes in particular the Boing 747-400, plane model called Victor X-ray. It is an airplane that has traveled more than 36 million miles, which means taking 1500 laps around the world during its 14 years of operation. His longest trip is 14 hours from Singapore with 299 passengers. These passengers consume up to a ton of food and drink during the flight

The hail, the fatigue of the materials, the collision with birds, are some of the causes that can cause wear or breakage of the components that make up the plane, A periodic inspections must be made to the aircraft to avoid aggravation. In addition, security systems such as chutes or black boxes are checked, since they are systems that, although they are not used, must be operational at all times.

Every 6 years, an exhaustive check called D check is carried out, and consists of carrying out up to 12,000 tasks on the plane, from disassembling the passengers' seats, to dismantling each of its four motors, which are fastened by 8 screws. 200 people, including engineers and mechanics, will perform 30,000 hours of work checking each part of the plane to verify that everything is correct and safe.

There are dimensions that allow us to understand their size, such as wings that measure as much as a football field or a landing gear weighs like double decker bus. And we can think that its price is as big as its size, 200 million pounds is what an airplane like this costs. Each engine can cost around 8 million dollars. In the second hand market we can find one for 1.2 million dollars. Is in the second-hand market we also find spare parts of these aerial giants, which come from other planes already retired. We can find parts such as urinals for 500 pounds, windshields for 30000 dollars or landing gear for 300,000 dollars.

Planes are incredible machines that nowadays the safety is the first.

Racing drones

A Drone is a flying device controlled remotely by a person or a program to develop many types of functions. There are many types of drones but my favorites are the racing drones. These devices are controlled by people who use a control with two joysticks and glasses where you can see in real time what is in front of the drone. Be careful if you are a person with vertigo or fear of speed. The device is normally built by four high performance electric motors that provide support and addressability to the device; a battery that gives electrical energy; a camera that allows you to control the drone as if you were inside and some circuits that control the motors and send the video signal to the glasses. There are a variety of forms of these devices: with more engines, with steerable propellers or even amphibious water-air. They are devices that don't allow a great time of flight, but can reach speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. Their flight range doesn't reach a kilometer aw...

Sushi and bad weather

This week, my in-laws they planned to come a few days to visit Mallorca and be with my girlfriend and me. Due to weather forecasts, they changed the day of arrival and advanced the trip a few days. From what they said on the news, it was going to rain a lot this week and the wind was going to blow very hard. These days we went to eat at two restaurants. The burguer Doze, is a small restaurant in Llucmajor that makes a very good burgers at a good price; or to kiyomi sushi, which is a Japanese food restaurant that has a menu where you can choose everything you want with a fixed price. The sushi is of very good quality and the entrees are very good. My in-laws left to Menorca a day before the storm began. This storm was announced well in advance, as it could cause a lot of damage to coastal areas and flood areas. Finally there have been waves up to 14 meters high and winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. It has been days of staying at home in the afternoon. In the practice hours in Glob...

A good opportunity to study aircraft maintenance

In this post I will explain my experience during these two years that have led me to start in the world of aircraft maintenance. From the moment I decided to start these studies, away from home until today, 2 years have passed. I decided to study this vocational course because I have always liked airplanes and vehicle maintenance. Upon arriving at the IES Son Pacs, the first day of class they explained, to my classmates and me, the great responsibility that comes with being an airplane mechanic, the difficulty of getting a license and other things that caused some classmates to decide to unsubscribe the first day. All the things that tell you that day you don't have to make yourself nervous. I believe that the first day has nothing to do with what the course is going to deal with, but being an aircraft mechanic carries a great responsibility. What matters in this course is to understand in a general way how airplanes work and the philosophy of aircraft maintenance. All mechanics m...
