A good opportunity to study aircraft maintenance

In this post I will explain my experience during these two years that have led me to start in the world of aircraft maintenance. From the moment I decided to start these studies, away from home until today, 2 years have passed. I decided to study this vocational course because I have always liked airplanes and vehicle maintenance. Upon arriving at the IES Son Pacs, the first day of class they explained, to my classmates and me, the great responsibility that comes with being an airplane mechanic, the difficulty of getting a license and other things that caused some classmates to decide to unsubscribe the first day. All the things that tell you that day you don't have to make yourself nervous. I believe that the first day has nothing to do with what the course is going to deal with, but being an aircraft mechanic carries a great responsibility. What matters in this course is to understand in a general way how airplanes work and the philosophy of aircraft maintenance. All mechanics m...

Maintenance Technician Course

In this post I will talk about how to obtain the title of superior technician in aeromechanical maintenance and how to obtain the license of technician in maintenance of airplanes B1.1 which is the necessary license to be able to sign in the documents of a commercial turbine aircraft. I will explain how to access these studies and what are the advantages of studying at the IES Son Pacs. I have selected some questions that may come to your mind before starting the course and that can help guide you. -How can I access these studies? As it can be accessed in several ways, in each course there are limited places for people who access through the bachillerato degree, other places for people who access by an vocational course of the same family or another family, there are also places for who access with an entrance exam to the university or an entrance exam to a vocational course. -Where do classes take place? During the first course, classes are held every Monday at the IES Son Pac...

Correfocs and module 9

This week I started studying for the module 9 exam, this module talks about human factors and we have a test type test and development test. In aviation it is very important to know the dangers of working with airplanes, since a failure can lead to a serious accident. We have to know the limitations that humans have and the possible failures we can make. Last weekend I went with my girlfriend to see the correfocs they made in Palma. They are hours throwing fireworks with the dimonis and the drag de na coca. It is an impressive pyrotechnic show. Because we have an exam next week, I have not left home much, but I took the opportunity to make pizzas or a vegetable paella with mushrooms that we went to look for with Guillem a few weeks ago. Here you have some pictures of the pizzas and the vegetable paella. In the Globalia workshop, my group and I have been measuring the angle of a flying surface and we have calculated the weight necessary to perform the balancing and it remains at a c...

Sushi and bad weather

This week, my in-laws they planned to come a few days to visit Mallorca and be with my girlfriend and me. Due to weather forecasts, they changed the day of arrival and advanced the trip a few days. From what they said on the news, it was going to rain a lot this week and the wind was going to blow very hard. These days we went to eat at two restaurants. The burguer Doze, is a small restaurant in Llucmajor that makes a very good burgers at a good price; or to kiyomi sushi, which is a Japanese food restaurant that has a menu where you can choose everything you want with a fixed price. The sushi is of very good quality and the entrees are very good. My in-laws left to Menorca a day before the storm began. This storm was announced well in advance, as it could cause a lot of damage to coastal areas and flood areas. Finally there have been waves up to 14 meters high and winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. It has been days of staying at home in the afternoon. In the practice hours in Glob...

Back to work

We are already in a new year, after Christmas holidays we return to normal. It has been a vacation that I have been able to rest and thus be able to start with more desire the new year. This holiday I have been in Menorca with my family, my partner and my friends. The first few days I was sick and had to rest. But a week later I signed up for the course of Sant silvestre that took place in the town of Alaior. It was a very fun course. Here you can see the poster of the competition. These days in Menorca I have gone to many dinners and family meals, and I have eaten everything. I have also gone on foot and motorcycle tours on all the roads of the island.  Before returning to Mallorca, take advantage of the last days to go skiing to Andorra. It is a country that lives very well and the weather is fantastic. Too bad they don't have any airport nearby to be able to live there all year. On the ski slopes my partner and I enjoyed the snow skiing and sunbathing. Back in Mallorca,...

Es salt des Freu, Randa and more corrosion

This week I took advantage of the good weather to go on a excursion to a couple of places that I had planned to go for a long time. The first excursion we have done this week, has been to visit a small river near Buñola where there is a waterfall called “Salt des Freu”. It is an excursion that does not take long if you are only going to visit the waterfall. My partner and I took less than 20 minutes to get from the car to the waterfall. To get there, the road is a bit narrow and has many curves, but it is not very difficult to get there. The trail that reaches the falls is located on the road from Bunyola to Orient. The trail that goes to the falls reaches Santa Maria del Camino. It is many hours of walking to get to Santa Maria. Here you can see some pictures we took when we reached the waterfall. The second excursion that my partner and I did was to climb the mountain of Randa. The mountain is right next to my house, but we took the car to reach the village of Randa. From there,...

Mushrooms and corrosion

There are only two weeks left to start the Christmas holidays. I already want to return to Menorca to be with my family and my friends. These days I can spend free time to do sport or go to look for mushrooms with Guillem. We went together to look for mushrooms and we found enough. Here you can see the mushrooms we took in just over an hour. We cannot say where we went to look for them, it’s a secret. In workshop practices at Globalia we have started module 6 again. This module studies the materials and hardware used in an airplane. We have started practices that are related to corrosion, material protection and painting. To avoid the appearance of corrosion we must inspect the airplane structure daily. Here you can see annotations of a visual inspection carried out in the turbocommander 680V In case of finding any corrosion point, we must eliminate it and protect the material. Aircraft structures oxidize very easily and very quickly. We have to take great care, so that the airpl...

A day in the mountains

After a few weeks of many hours studying, tranquility arrives; less in Son Pacs, which seems that all teachers have reached an agreement to give us more work. This weekend, the weather wasn’t very good I went to the mountain to do an excursion. The mountain is one of the places where I feel peaceful and helps me to leave my mind blank. I took the opportunity to look for some mushrooms and identify them. I have to say that I don't know all the mushrooms of the Balearic Islands, but the "eslatasangs" and the "cames seca" I can identify them. This year there aren’t many mushrooms, but I found some around the village of Esporles. People don’t say where these mushrooms can be found. In my house I have more time to cook, and this time I have prepared one of my favorite dishes, the rabbit with onion. I have to say that I have had a great dish. For dessert I made some churros with chocolate. Enough of so much fat, I have to do more sports, that day I went for a r...

Module 7, a challenge

Finally we have done the exams of module 7. These weeks have been very monotonous and I didn't know what to talk about in the blog. We have finished the exam about 6 p.m. and when I arrived I haven’t remembered more of the blog. Doing the exams has been a great relief, the multi-choice test I think has gone quite well, although there were some questions that were very difficult. The two development questions have been a great challenge, since you can ask anything about the almost 1500 pages that all the books in module 7 have. It is crazy to have to know all the content, but it has served us a lot to do the practices in the workshop, since the questions had to do with the practices carried out during the past year and this year. I think there are questions that can be answered more easily once you are working, since it is your day to day work. It has been a great relief. To clear my mind a little, these days, I have done a bit of sport when I finish studying. One day I went for...

To bad weather, good face

This week I haven’t left home much, I have gone from home to Globalia training and from globalia training to home all week. Upon arriving home my partner heats the food that we already have prepared, or if we have nothing prepared we make some simple and fast dish since it is usually a little late. When we are eating, we talk about how the day has gone and sometimes I explain concepts that we have given in theory class or I explain what I have done in practice, this helps me to review somethings a bit. After eating, almost every day, I rest for a while before starting to review for the module 7 exam. As my partner also has exams these days, we are both motivated to start studying and not get distracted by other things. After studying we have to prepare dinner and some days we take the opportunity to make the meal the next day. These days the weather is not very good, it rains and it is windy, so I don’t feel like going out. In Globalia Training we study module 11, we review the operati...

One week without going to Son Pacs and a fast car

This week we haven’t gone to son Pacs because it was the all Saints' Day. Since I haven’t gone to Son Pacs I have been able to take more time and study module 7. In the previous blog I explained that I was making typical donuts from these dates. In the next photo you can see the donuts. I have to improve the form but the donuts are very good. I've also made egg custards that have come out a little different. I have to say that it's the first time I've made an egg custard. Here you have a picture. On Monday I went with Tomeu to Manacor to test a special edition of a car. They let us drive the car for a while and explained all the special things that differentiate it from the other models. There are only 290 units of this model and each costs € 46,000. It was a very funny experience. In Globalia Formacion we have returned to the theory classes with the instructor Arnaldo and we have just reviewed module 11.6 where the electric systems of the plane are explained. We ...

A visit to the hangar and other places to eat

This weekend my couple and I went to eat at a buffet at the Son Pardo racecourse. It is right next to the son pacs institute. It is a buffet where we can find typical Mallorcan dishes, such as “ tumbet” which are sliced vegetables such as aubergine, potato and green pepper, with tomato sauce. We also found "trampo", which is a salad of tomatoes, onions and green and red peppers, cut into very small squares. Most of the dishes in the buffet are good, I recommend the site to people who like buffets. Also this weekend I made a cheesecake with jam that was great. My partner and I like to have something sweet to eat after lunch. Right now, while I am writing the blog, I am preparing donuts, typical of this time of year. Next week I will upload photos of how the donuts have been. This week at Globalia we have continued with the hydraulic systems of the plane with Jose Miguel. In the workshop, Pere and I have finished assembling the turbochargers, we have stopped all the sc...

Special food and turbochargers

This week our parents have come to visit us from Menorca. They have come to celebrate my partner's birthday, mine and my father's. On Saturday morning I had to get up very early to go to the airport to pick them up.This time, and as we celebrated our birthday, we went to a restaurant located in the center of Palma, but there are others like it all over the island. We went to “la casa gallega", all the food they make is very good. For the amount of food they give you and the quality, the price is good. The dish that I liked the most was a grilled sirloin that was delicious. When we finished eating we went for a walk in Palma and some shops there. The same day, my parents returned to Menorca. The rest of the days, it has been bad weather and we have not left home, and we have taken the opportunity to study module 7 and cook some special dishes. One day I made chocolate with churros that were great. On Sunday I made a seafood paella that was also very good and for dinn...

A visit to Son Servera and the new instructor

This week has been special, since I celebrated my couple's birthday and mine. The birthday surprise, my couple's sister has come to visit us. My partner didn't expect this surprise. We have visited some places in Mallorca such as Son Servera and the “Esglesia Nova”, that it's an unfinished church, with a special charm. We also visited the port of Portocristo and its small beach. We went to eat at the famous restaurant "Es cruce" located in the town of Villafranca de Bonany, on the road towards Manacor from Palma. It's a restaurant very famous for a typical Mallorcan dish called "arros brut". The prices  unsurpassed and for this reason there is a lot of waiting time for you to get a table to eat. Not only is it cheap, they also put a lot and it's good. People from all over Mallorca go. At Globalia, we still don't know exactly the date of the exam of module 7, but they have told us that they will be a month later than expected. This...

Car racing in the puig major and a hidden skydrol tank

This last weekend I went on an excursion to the Puig major, since this weekend there was a car race. Taking advantage of this event, the night before the race, I slept near to the village of Sóller, a small village located between mountains. Sóller seems to me a spectacular village since it is surrounded by mountains and with a special color in its houses. In addition, it has a small railway that reaches the port of Sóller. I camped near the road for the next morning to see the race from there. What impressed me most, is to see the sunrise from the mountain, with the town of Sóller just below. It was a full day that helped me to disconnect from the module 7 exam. Day 9 was my birthday and I brought cookies and croissants to class for my classmates. Upon arriving home, my partner had prepared a cake with 23 candles. The next weekend is her birthday and I will prepare some surprise ...  In theory class we have started the airplane's pneumatic system, but in practic...

We return to the blog after summer vacations

From now on, every week I will upload a new blog post explaining what I have been doing during the week both in Globalia training and in my day to day.  In recent weeks I have been a little involved, since I had to move from Menorca with all my things, to install me again in Llucmajor. This past Friday I went back to Menorca to process some papers that I had pending. On Thursday night I took a flight from Palma airport to Menorca. Now that I know quite a lot of aircraft and aviation systems in general, every time I go to the airport I look at many things.I got on an Iberia plane operated by Air nostrum, specifically a CRJ-1000, a plane with two turbine engines that takes about 20 minutes from Palma to Mahón. On Saturday, I was back in Palma, I noticed that there was a plane of the Malaysia Airlines company, specifically an Airbus a380, a giant plane at the Palma Airport. I inform myself about the plane and it is a plane that these days is doing the Palma - London rou...

Video: Hydraulic and pneumatic

Here you have a new video explaining what is hydraulic and pneumatic.

First class of grammar review

In this post I will describe a couple of things we learned from grammar in English the last class, with a book that Catherine shared with us. In class we have done some exercises with the book: English for aircraft. We started with part 1 of the book that explains the order of the words, since in English the keyword you want to describe is at the end of the sentence. For example: air used to cool hot air is: cooling air. We have also learned that the position of the object that we are going to describe goes to the beginning of the sentence. For example: inner marker light.  Another topic that we have learned during classes with the English book are words that indicate position such as: in, on, in to, along... And how to use these words correctly like "Insert the engine into the casing" or "the cabin lights run along the ceiling". All these words, I already knew them before but it could be that I wasn't as clear as using them. It may be that my mistake wh...

Gender discrimination

With this poster that my colleagues and I have made we wanted to analyze: first of all the number of women who have studied in Globalia formation, the studies that we are doing. We have also analyzed where this great imbalance between men and women could come from, and that in the last seven years only six women have studied this vocational course. Another issue that we have analyzed is the difference in salary that exists between the two genders. Finally, we have found possible solutions and acts that are carried out to promote equality between men and women at work.  The idea of making this poster came up to see a couple of films, it was based on the real stories, the themes of the topics they talk about, the inequality between people of different skin color, or people of different gender. Racial discrimination is an issue that we find in many films, especially in North American, which is where this type of discrimination most exists for many years. The history of North ...
